Week 14 Blog, Due Sunday, December 09, 2012 by 11:00 PM

I hope you are all having a great year so far.  I can't believe how fast it is going!  Our most recent topic has been energy.  So far, we have talked about Kinetic Energy (KE), Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE), and Mechanical Energy (ME).  These, however, are not the only types of energy around us.  For this week's blog, I want you to think about some other types of energy plus those we have spoke of.  Some other types of energy include Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Energy in a spring, Thermal Energy, Chemical Energy, etc..  Look at the world around you and describe something in which an energy transformation is taking place.  (An energy transformation is when one form of energy is turned into another form such as Solar Energy to Thermal Energy.)  If you have any questions or problems posting your comments, please let me know BEFORE 4:00 pm on Sunday.  As always, you can email your response if you have problems.  Remember, in order to receive full credit, you must post an original comment PLUS comment on someone else's comment.  Happy Blogging!

  1. The only example i was able to think of was in the engine on a vehicle the fuel,which is chemical energy, gets transformed into mechanical energry.

  3. Solar energy is light and heat from the sun. Solar energy uses solar panels that can turn it either to mechanical energy or electrical energy. An example to of Solar to mechanical is Helios UAV in solar powered flight. An example of solar energy to electrical is using it to make rechargeable batteries.

  6. Example would be a lightbulb because starts of as electrical energy when you turn the switch on and then turns to heat energy which then gives light energy in the bulb.

  10. when a plant absorbs light to photosynthesize it is using solar energy to process carbon dioxide and water into chemical energy.

  11. When you start running after being in potential energy it turns into kinetic energy. Then after some time the kinetic energy turns into thermal energy which is why you start to feel a higher body temperature even though it's cold outside.

  12. An example could be a toaster because it goes from electrical energy to thermal energy. This happens once the toaster is plugged in it begins to heat up.

  13. Since its holiday time, an example would be christmas lights. When you plug them in, the electrical energy then turns into heat enery which causes light energy.

  14. electrical to mechanical: would be turning on a blow-drier. The electricity goes inside the blow-drier and causes a fan inside to spin

  15. Roller Coaster Rolling Down Hill is Potential Energy to Kinetic Energy. because it starts off with the potential to move but that action is put into place when it rolls.

  18. An example that has always been given to me for this topic is a candle! Chemmical energy is used from the wax then we have the fire making heat energy and giving off light energy at the same time.
