Week 20 Blog, Due Sunday, February 3rd, by 11:00 pm

This week we have talked about heat, temperature, and heat transfer.  For this week's blog, I want you to make observations of the world around  you.  Give an example of heat transfer in your everyday life.  Make sure you give a description of the heat transfer that is occurring as well as what type of heat transfer it is.  Your example must be original and not copied from someone else's post.  Remember, for full credit you need to include one original comment as well as comment on at least one other person's comment.  If you have any problems, please let me know by 5:00 pm Sunday.  If you have trouble posting, you can email me your response or give me your response on twitter @EgoIsAwesome.  Happy Blogging!

    1. yes because your hair gets hot and the flat iron is the conductor.

    2. Hey! I didn't even think about this. GREAT example!

  2. when a warm person hugs a cold person and warms them up is an example of heat transfer because on persons body heat is sent to the other person to warm them up a bit.

  4. when i rub my hands against eachother, my hands get warm, so that should ber heat transfer by conduction - raul alaniz

    1. That's a great example I do that when its really cold outside.

    3. simple example, yet very good! i didn't actually think of this one!

  5. An example of heat treansfer is when you walk on a cold sunny day and the sun is shining on you. This makes you feel heat. This is an example of Radiation.

    1. Yeah I agree and it feels good to be warm by the sun rather than being freezing cold with no sun.

  6. When I make my dinner in the oven the heat transfers to the food. Therefore, ends up cooking it and this is called radiation.

  7. Metal is a good conductor of heat.Great Example!

  8. When people have solar panels on their house they use heat energy from the sun, which is radiation, to power their house.

  9. I used to hate when I would forget my cooler of water during band camp because then I would have to buy a water of bottle. The water would get hot fast because of the sun kept shining on it and made the cold water hot. This is an example of Radiation.

  10. When you make popcorn in the microwave, the heat used to pop/ cook it is in radiation form.

    1. I make popcorn all the time good example.

    2. This type of radiation is called electromagnetic radiation

    3. a microwave is the perfect machine that gives radiation

      Delete
    4. I agree the microwave is a great machine since I can have food warmed up in minutes thanks to the radiation it gives off:)

  11. Whenever it's really chilly and cold outside, I put my favorite hoodie in the dryer right before I go outside to the bus stop. Whenever I put the hoodie on, the heat transfers to my body and I'm not as cold as I was.

    1. it also works when you iron your pants before you go outside in the cold!

    2. Thats a good idea, I would have never thought about doing that lol, good example!

  12. When you make cake in the oven the heat of the oven cooks the cake which makes it rise is radiation but also when you open the oven you can feel the heat of the oven hit your face which can also be radiation because you get warm.

    1. Nice! Two examples in one. Don't forget that oven mitts are conductors that protect you from getting burned.

  13. Sometimes when you sit on a bench outside and it is hot, this is an example of radiation. The sun's rays heat up the bench.

    1. The floor would also be another example of radiation since the sun rays hit the floor too.

  14. In the summer time i am outside in the sun almost every weekend because of softball. I have to put sunscreen on because of the rays of the sun. Thats an example of radiation.

  15. Boiling of water when my grandma wants to drink coffee. This is an example of convection because of the steam produced by the boiling water, conduction because something hot is touching something cold, and radiation because the stove radiates heat.

    1. Same here. My mom, in order to boil eggs, puts them in water to boil as well.

  16. When ever you sit near a lightbulb you can feel the heat being given off, this would be an example of radiation.

    1. I Agree! Everytime my hands are cold I always put them next to my lamp so they can get warmer lol.

  17. During the Winter when my hands get very cold I warm them up by putting them on top of hot boiling water, and letting the steam warm them up. This is an example of heat transfer through convection.

  18. I went to a bonfire once and my hands were really cold so I put them towards the fire and they became warmer. This is an example of radiation.

  19. At night i have a heater on and that's radiation because the heat travels through the air

  20. A example of heat transfer is when a toaster is toasting bread. It is a example of radiation.

    1. Awesome example its something that we sometimes overlook.

  22. when the pavement gets hot because of the sun radiating on it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. So yesterday I was making pancakes but then I burned one so I threw the pan in the sink and put water on it (bad idea) and I think that was conduction because of the water and hot pan touching.

  24. An example of heat transfer is when the windows of the car have ice on them and they melt because of the heat from inside the car to the outside.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. when that happens you don't even see it melt it just desapears.

  25. In previous winters, my Cousins and I would build campfires. We would make smores and the radiation of the fire would toast the marshmallow. The heat in the marshmallow, through conduction, would melt the chocolate for us too.

  26. When the sun heats a car up due to UV rays transferring heat to the car causing it to rise in temperature.

    1. Especially the interior when it's leather it gets really hot !!

  27. When someone lights up a lighter to spark a cigarette the heat goes from the lighter to the cigarette so people can smoke !

    PS. Just saying I don't smoke -.-

  28. an example of heat transfer could be when you leave your vehicle out in the sun for a long time. when you touch it, it is very hot. this is due to radiation!

    3. yeah the straightener heats up the hair

  30. An example of radiation is when it is 100 degrees outside and the concrete becomes extremely hot due to it being directly under the blazing sun.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was thinking about that but with a car i didn't know if that would mean conduction due to the metal on the car or radiation due to the sun...or both?

  31. I used a microwave to heat up super bowl left overs. ;)
This is an example of radiation.

  32. When the tire of acar is hot because the rubbing of the payvment and the tire creates heat

    ReplyDelete

    1. yes the friction causes heat. i gues this would be considered conduction.

  33. whenever drinking warm things IE tea, Coffey, CHOCOLATE ceramic mugs are usual used to keep the heat from transferring from the liquid to your had and burning you, this is also called conduction.

  39. When you are sitting by a fire wearing shorts, you feel the heat more than the parts covered up by clothing. This type of heat transfer would be radiation since you're legs are not touching the fire, so it would be radiation.
