Week 24 Blog, Due Sunday, March 3rd, 2013
The blog is back! I know you've missed it. This week we have been talking about waves and wave behaviors. I want you to think about these concepts as you go through your life everyday. Where are there examples of waves? How about the different wave behaviors, reflection, refraction, doppler effect, diffraction, polarization, constructive or destructive interference, or resonance? Give at least one example of a wave, wave characteristic (period or frequency) or a wave behavior that occurs in your everyday life. It must be ORIGINAL, not copied from someone else. For full credit, you must give one original comment PLUS comment on at least one other person's post. Remember, it is due by 11:00 pm Sunday night. Doppler effect when the sound of a speeding car changes from when its coming towards you and when it's going away.

DeleteAgreed they're diffraction waves and that can happen when the waves hits any object b/c they're trying to pass through it
DeleteAn example of refraction could be glasses and telescopes because they refract light.

DeleteAn example of resonance would be my windchimes, when they move in the wind and they hit against each other the ring after is resonance.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good example. Another is in band when the percussion players play their drums and the sound resonates.

DeleteAn example of poloraization would be when a car with a really loud speaker goes by your house and certain objects bounce in a certain way due to the waves

DeleteAn example of Reflection was when we shined the laser in the mirror and it bounced off and hit the paper during the lab we did in class. I thought it was cool. :)

DeleteAn example of the doppler effect was when you swung the tennis ball with the the battery inside that made noise over your head. The pitch changed as it was moving in circles.
ReplyDeleteWhen the sound got closer the pitch got higher/bigger like in The Big Bang Theory Sheldon's halloween costume was the doppler effect. c:
DeleteThe Doppler effect happens when there is an ambulance siren ringing as it goes to its destination. The sound goes from small to big.

DeleteThe radio waves of a cell phone hits the satellite and sends them back. I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's considered interference.

DeleteAn example of diffraction is when a wave hits a peson at the beach but still manages to go around them. Diffraction increases as the wavelength increases and vice versa.

DeleteAn example of reflection is when you have your phone on your lap & the light hits your phone & you see light on the ceiling.

DeleteWhen you're in a swimming pool but you're head is poked out and people that aren't in the swimming see your head as normal but your body as bigger or somewhat bent is an example of refraction.

DeleteGood example, I knew the pencil in the water was an example of refraction but for some reason I couldn't think of another one other than glasses.
DeleteAn example of relection is if we see a glare which are visible light waves being absorbed and then reflect among that surface.Thus me seeing them.

Deletean example of reflection could be when glitter is spilled on you and suddenly a ray of sunlight reflects all of the pretty colors on the walls!

DeleteWhen I play my bass clarinet i can feeel the vibrations from it all on my face, that's an example of ressonance.
ReplyDeleteWhen I hit my drum that's an example of resonce too.
Deletewhen i play pedal tones on my trombone i can feel the vibration on my face too because the pitch is so low.

DeleteWhen i play with the group. The saxes are usually out of tune. lol no offense to them but you can tell when one is sharp because the wave in the pitch is fast compared to the other ones that are in tune. and its the same with one of them being flat cause the wave is longer and slower.
ReplyDeleteAn example of polarization is sunglasses. Polarize sunglasses reduce eye strain and give a clearer vision.

ReplyDeleteAn example of reflection, is when im out playing softball, and the rays of the sun are beaming down, the rays could be hitting something else and bouncing back on me also.

DeleteThere are examples of waves in a cafeteria full of students, with everyone talking the sound waves bounce off of each other and carry off into other sections.

ReplyDeleteWhen you hear a faint police siren or an ambulance siren, it seems low because they are far away. The closer it gets, the louder it gets as well.
