Week 9 Blog, Due Sunday, October 28th, 2012
Its time to think about Science Fair! For this week's blog, I want everyone to visit the official website for the Houston Science and Engineering Fair. This is the link: http://www.sefhouston.org/students-parents-teachers . I want you to click on some of the links to see what different information is available to you. Now, for this week's assignment. You need to locate the entry form and look it over. At some point, you will need to print the form and fill out all of the information before the school science fair on November 13th. Find the section that lists the categories for science fair. For this week's post, I want you to identify which category your project falls under. I also want you to tell me one other thing you saw on the website. It can be anything you find helpful or interesting. If you are not completing a major science fair project because you are choosing to participate in history fair instead, please let me know if you are going to complete the photograph entry or the research paper. Remember, you must complete an original post PLUS comment on someone else's post for full credit. Posts must be complete by 11:00 pm Sunday for full credit as well. Happy posting!

My project falls under the category of Behavioral/Social Sciences. Something interesting I found on the website was on the reviews and guidelines section. It has internet sources for research and it reviews what the purpose, hypothesis, etc. is.
ReplyDeletewhere did you find the categories??? I can not find them!
DeleteI'm with Alejandra, I cannot find the catagories.
DeleteI can't find the categories with that web link... where did you find it?
DeleteYeah me either you guys
DeleteI'm with them I can't find the categories! :(
Deletesame here I'm lost.
DeleteI couldnt find it either !
DeleteMy science fair project falls in the category of biochemistry
ReplyDeletewhere are the Categories?
DeleteWhere were the categories in the link??
DeleteI don't know where the categories are but I already know mine! Human psychology. Primarly focusing on memory and the use of Mneumonics (memory aids) something I found interesting was that I must get permission from the principal and that Houston uses a book of rules and guidelines for science fair
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that:)
DeleteAre you going to ask people questions or are you just going to research things?
I find your topic to be very interesting but hopefully the principal allows you to do it.
DeleteI see your project intresting but remember about some limits you can do on experiments that involve with people.
DeleteMy project falls into the catagory of engineering the application of scientific knowledge for practical use.Soething new that I learned from what I read on the website is that they only choose 5 to send to ISEF based on criteria.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't find the catagories, but Meagan and I are going to research and create snowflakes to see if all snowflakes are different. What I learned is that there are 10 categories and the maximium points is 10.
ReplyDeleteThats sounds really cool. How do you make snowflakes? Hope you have fun answering your question.
DeleteThat sounds cool! I hope yalls snowflakes look pretty;)
DeleteI couldn't find the categories either but something i learned is that our projects go through 3 phases of judging.
ReplyDeleteMy partner and i fall under the behavioral/socaial sciences category. Which is also under life science. We just need to make sure to get all the forms needed for the experiment.
ReplyDeleteTo find the categories, click where its says rules and guidelines on the website. Then click where it says houston rules and guidelins(pdf). It should send you to a document with all the guildlines and rules. Keep scrolling down till it says Project Categories.
DeleteThanks erenderi, i found the categories thanks to you(:
DeleteAwesome, you're doing the same category as me. What's your project about? Like specifically what are you trying to test?
DeleteI could not find the categories :( But Guadalupe and I are going to do our project on Memory Retention. I learned that you must have a hypothesis, data, procedure, results, and data analysis on your board. You must have a bibliography and have to fill out all the required forms that go with your project.
ReplyDeleteMemory Retention sounds interesting. :)
DeleteThat does sound interesting!
DeleteMy science fair project falls under the behavioral science category. One thing that I found very helpful was the Poster Design Contest document because its states everything that is expected on the poster board and the things that are not allowed as well.
ReplyDeleteMy group's project falls under the category of Botany/Plant Science. What I found interesting is that the SEFH is also having a Poster Design contest to encourage an artistic view of science and engineering.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see the poster design contest that's interesting. Hey Ms.Ego I found something but couldn't find my category.
DeleteYea the posters do look creative
DeleteOh cool! I didn't know they were having a poster contest!
DeleteI couldn't find my category but for science fair I'm doing buoyancy and there was nothing interesting to me but that's me.
ReplyDeleteThat's was my first choice but it's to easy
DeleteI don't know what I'm looking for!
ReplyDeleteclick the link & just navigate through it you will find the categories and all the information
Deleteme too
Deletegood topic
DeleteMy science fair project falls under the behavioral science category, and nothing really interesting to me.
ReplyDeletei think you just need to look longer
Deleteyeah you have to look for a while before you find something
DeleteMy groups project is under botany/plant science. The project approval form has alot of things and rules we have to do.
ReplyDeleteI as well couldn't find my category but my partner and I are researching on why do humans react bad when they hear bad sounds for example, a someone's nails scratching down a chalk board
ReplyDeletethat's sounds like a good project! and i shuddered just by reading your example ha.
DeleteThose kind of sounds are terrifying but a good project.
DeleteMy group project is under behaivor/social science. Me and my partners are studiying about how phobia effects the brain and the negative effects. The website showed me some limits to how much we could do and how far we can go with the project.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Ego i cant find the catagories but i hink it is behavioral/ social science and i think that the web site is cool because it has examples of projects.
ReplyDeletehaha yeah! The examples are very helpful!
DeleteAna Mendoza
If i saw the correct ones, than my project would fall under Behavioral/Social Sciences since Ale's and my project deals with memory. I liked how the website basically broke down everything. It explained many of the stuff step by step.
ReplyDeletemy science fair project falls under the category of
ReplyDeleteBEHAVIORAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCES (Code: BE)
as for the interesting thing i noticed that Texes has its own engineering science fair .
I believe that our project would fall under the Biochemistry/Microbiology category. Something interesting i found was that it gives you a guideline of how to set up a good notebook. (:
ReplyDeleteOur project would fall under behavioral and social sciences.
ReplyDeleteSomething interesting i noticed was that you can enter a writting contest as well...
Ana Mendoza
My project falls under Behavioral Sciences and i found out that you cant interact with the animal you are testing.
ReplyDeleteWell, my partners and I aren't quite sure what category our topic falls under but we believe its Biochemistry/Microbiology. Something helpful I found was that it gave people a heads up on any new changes to this years science fair. :)
ReplyDeleteMy project falls under biochemistry and a way for a cheap and eco/green way to go. I saw what science fairs won last year and the years before. Aldine never won xD
ReplyDeleteThats a great Topic=D
Deletei believe my category falls under the energy and transportation category & i learned there are 10 categories & max points of 10
ReplyDeleteMy partner and i fall under the behavioral/socaial sciences category; which is also under life science.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't find the categories...
